1 January 2011 - Happy New Year

Happy New Year, everyone!  Our son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Jecca, arrived in San Francisco yesterday afternoon.  After lunch at Fisherman's Grotto #9, an old and famous restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf, we toured the city in a double-decker bus for almost 4 hours.  This picture was taken by our tour guide, at the top of a hill overlooking San Francisco, the Bay, and Oakland.  It was cold - about 45 - and sprinkling.  The weather here reminds us of Mississippi in the winter!

One of our stops was at the Golden Gate Bridge.  Jecca took this picture of us with Kenny.  They will be here for 4 days.  After staying up until midnight to welcome in the new year, sleeping in, and having a wonderful breakfast of blueberry waffles, real maple syrup, bacon and eggs, fruit and juice, we are taking it easy.  Of course, I will cook black-eyed peas with sausage, collard greens, rolls, dessert, and the usual fare, and we even have some sparkling apple cider.  We'll miss all of our family, but it's sure great to have some of them here with us in Oakland!
